Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2001 17:06:02 -0400 (EDT) From: Bob Bruninga Subject: [sarex] Grid Square Posits via ISS Steve Dimse announced the latest upgrades to the ARISS/APRS web page including its ability to now plot grid square position reports like: >EL94GP Comments go here The ISS digipeated packet would look like this K4HG>CQ,NOCALL*:>EL94GP Comments go here Although this format is the minimum essential information to be parsed and plotted by Steve's http://www.ariss.net maps, it is not sufficient to be decoded on any other APRS software or the Kenwood front panel displays. To be APRS compatible, the GRID SQUARE format must include two ICON characters on the end as in this example: >EL94GP/- comments go here Where the /- is the ICON for a house. There are hundreds of other colorful ICONs that you can use to be more descriptive of your operations. The TWO CHARACTER combinations for all of these other ICONS are detailed in http://web.usna.navy.mil/~bruninga/issicons.txt de WB4APR, Bob - ---- Via the sarex mailing list at AMSAT.ORG courtesy of AMSAT-NA.
