VE3KAR - Kingston A.R.C. - 147.090 MHz (+)
(formerly the VE3KBR standby/backup repeater)
There is NO REQUIREMENT to be a Kingston ARC member to use this repeater.
The Kingston Amateur Radio Club maintains the voice repeaters VE3KBR, and
VE3KAR in Kingston, open to all Amateurs. Our thanks to Highland Communications for the
location of VE3KBR at their site in Kingston and to and the Kingston Psychiatric
Hospital, site of VE3KAR. VE3KAR is at the Kingston Psychiatric
Hospital where is will be operating with a Ringo Ranger.
The change in going from a standby-backup repeater with the same frequencies as
VE3KBR, was precipitated during the electrical blackout the other summer, when
the the power was restored and there was an strong harmonic/intermod signal on
the input frequency, which made using either repeater unworkable, especially for
those not close to the repeater. By having VE3KAR on its own frequencies,
we now have the option of using either repeater as well as open up opportunities
for experimentation using various operating modes and not monopolizing one
frequency/repeater.
One of the features of VE3KAR is that you can listen to the 90 seconds of Environment Canada's Weather forecast by entering
404 on your DTMF pad.
Enter 411 on your keypad for options menu
Enter 375 and number key for keypad check
Enter 400 for a time check
Enter 404 for 90 seconds of weather info
Enter 405 to turn on complete weather, and 406 to turn complete weather off.
There is no autopatch available, or linking to other repeaters.
If you use our repeater please help us maintain it by supporting the Kingston
A.R.C. by becoming a member.
