Kingston Amateur Radio Club

Amateur Radio Operators have always been interested in weather conditions as it applies to propagation, sitting in front of a radio or someplace else, erecting antenna systems.

It appears to be proven out that if you erect an antenna in real miserable weather it always seems to work the first time - you're more careful about making sure every connection, assembly work, is done right, after all who wants to do it all over again in the same rotten weather!!.

Many Amateurs run their own weather stations and have them hooked into APRS so you can see what their weather conditions are in real time.

Others are involved in the CANWARN program.

Many Scanners , Weather Radios, and Amateur Radios have a function that allows you to insert a location code that will advise you when there is a severe weather alert for your area and give you the event code. This is called S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding). Check your radio to see if it has this function!
