Marconi 100th Anniversary
|
Dave Lawrence, VA3ORP, participated in the 100th
Anniversary of Marconi's trans-Atlantic transmission by operating a 19 set
using battery power near the site of the old Marconi building on Fort
Henry Hill. For those who were unable to visit Dave out at the old
Marconi site, you missed a good time. Dave had the 19 set chirping away
into a "chalk line" inverted V antenna. The original
thought was to use a kite to raise the antenna but Mother Nature decided
to give Dave ideal operating conditions, No Wind, no snow, no
rain!!! One of the contacts Dave made was with Dave, VE3BBN, who
later on in the evening would be transmitting using a home brew
"Spark Gap" transmitter, authorized by Industry Canada to mark
the 100th Anniversary. |
