R.C.A.F. Marconi PN-1A

| Bob, VE3GLO, one of our Club members recently became to
owner of two (2) Royal Canadian Air Force Marconi HF manpacks. They
were manufactured by Marconi Canada, and refurbished in April 1960 by
Canadian Aviation Electronics. The Model number is PN-1A, with a
Reference number of IOEJ/3671 . The serial number of one of them is
number 189. We have some information on this radio, as Dave Lawrence, VA3ORP, knew there was a similar radio in the museum, and located it and the manual. The museum has the PN-1B, which is the fixed station model, and the manual covers both the PN-1A and the PN-1B models. The radios receive 3 6 MHz, and transmit on one of three crystal controlled transmit channels. Power output is 2.5 watts. The PN-1B has no telescopic antenna and has a built in speaker. Noel Eaton, VE3CJ, had donated the PN-1B back in 1974, and in his letter to the Museum, states that he believed they may have been used by the Air Force for construction parties operating on the west coast.
