REPEATER MAINTENANCE LOG
1995

This is a transcript of the Repeater Maintenance Log for the year 1995.
The only editorial changes made during the transcription is that
I've added VE to the callsigns which in most cases were logged
as 3xxx since at the time only VE3 calls were issued.
Comments in RED added during transcription for clarification

25 May 95 8PM report of repeater held on by noise bursts. Reported by Doug VE3FFR. No noise on receiver but about 30 uAmps from our own TX. Patched in standby reptr & OK. Removed 3A fuse from TX. Bernard

26 May 2PM Checked duplexer & OK. Trouble still on - TX getting into RX - off freq splatter causing noise. Still on Standby rig. Tom

19 June 95 7PM clicks on repeater caused by the packet TX 145.010 giving receive signal peaks up to 30 uvolts about above 6uV which is the idle current. VE3NB
28 June Raised 145.010 Yagi up mast about 10' - out of line with repeater antenna - X mod seems to be reduced. Tom

10 July 95 AM removed Sinclair 2M filter from input to duplexer and connected antenna directly to duplexer and put Sinclair 2M filter in the input to receiver. TX output will increased to about 8W at antenna. SWR 1 TO 1 Bernard
10 July PM Restored repeater filter and duplexer to original set up due to spurious noises probably coming from our TX.
TX output at antenna 4W. SWR 1:1

12 August 2PM Put in GLB pre-amp but H.Y. batteries went flat - so removed it but left it in place & powered up. VE3NB
22 Aug 95 2PM Put in pre-amp on RX and peaked it up. Worked for a while but still X mod. It suddenly quit working & removed from circuit. Tom

6 Sept 95 Moved repeater to RAC HQ using Heath equipment - no X mod
13 Sept 95 2PM Maggiorre repeater installed back at John Orr Tower. Output to antenna set at 10W. Bad X mod at times holding up TX. This tests prove equipment is OK - trouble is X mod at site. Tom
Bernard
14 Sept 1995 9AM repeater removed to QTH VE3NB as X mod INTERMOD & noise make it unuseable at this site (JOHN ORR TOWER) Working OK.
17 Oct 95 moved to RAC HQ. 614 Norris Court. Kingston. Output at TX 25W. 6DB gain antenna similar to Diamond X200A. No X INTERMOD mod and negligible desensing - coverage about 20 miles. Two metre band pass filter not required (This has a 3db loss where Duplexer has ONLY about 1db loss) (ERP about 90W). RX idling current) at limiter < 6uA)

NOTE: The 443.3 MHz repeater is still operating from the John Orr Tower, also the VE3CDY Packet systen.

31 OCT 95 OLD SINCLAIR DUPLEXER SALVAGED FROM JOHN ORR TOWER AND TAKEN TO QTH OF VE3NB FOR POSSIBLE RE-ALIGNMENT AND USE.
Nov 95 Sinclair duplexer sold to VE3KNR Group for $175.00 VE3NB
(The rotor on the tri-band beam would cause noise to the repeater when the wind made the beam move. This was because of the poor ground circuit through the rotor. John VE3JCQ put a strap from the tower to the pipe holding the repeater antenna which solved the noise problem.) (RAC HQ had a metal roof, with the tower alongside the building, with tri-band beam, and the HF vetical and 2M repeater antennae mounted to vent pipes going through roof. - Chip, VA3KGB)
