1996

This is a transcript of the Repeater Maintenance Log for the year 1996.
The only editorial changes made during the transcription is that
I've added VE to the callsigns which in most cases were logged
as 3xxx since at the time only VE3 calls were issued.
Comments in RED added during transcription for clarification

TX output checked and is 25 Watts. No reflected power. RX idling current is 4uA.

VE3NFU reports repeater dead.  

24TH

Trouble apeared to be in shielded cable from RX to C.O.R. input or in the scoket. Moved it around and OK. Bernard

25 July AC power off in office 0915 to 11AM due to Hydro trouble  
2 Aug 96 Replaced shielded lead from 'D' on RX to C.O.R. in. Found poor soldered connection in pin of phono plug. VE3NB
26 Aug 1996 Off air - trouble in input to C.O.R. - appears to be in plug of lead to C.O.R. input. Put in spare repeater. Tom

27 Aug Tom found poor joint on COR input lead and resoldered it. restored regular repeater to service.  
  (RAC HQ moves 15 Oct 96 to Ottawa)  
Sat 21 Sept '96 1.30P Repeater moved from RAC HQ to QTH of VE3NB. Back on air 2.30P Output to antenna 20W. RX limiter current, idling 4uA. No desensing to speak of. (4uA to 8uA)  
27 Sept 96 Appears to be a trouble in 40A STABYLEX P.S. Transformer is too hot to touch with a 1A repeater load. Voltage OK at 13.8V. Replaced with 10A P.S. from VE3NB. Will call co in Messina for a cct diagram. original was lost when Bill Butterill died.
Still unable to find type of FET for GLB Helix pre-amp. (Replaced by ECG-618454185 ?? which is defective). No circuit diagram since Bill Butterill died! No such listing for ECG64185.?
 
20 OCT 96 Took 2Metre repeater out of dervice to rewire Matrix in ID. cct from VE3KER to VE3KBR. Took about 6 hours to remove 40 diodes, clean holes, and solder in about 45 new 1N914.  
21 Oct 96 I.D runs continuously - found that removing all diodes for 'KINGSTON' and just using P TO C strap instead of W-C trouble cleared and so I.D. is now just VE3KBR. Back in service pm 22 Oct. VE3NB
22 Oct 96 Licensee Tom UDO Lloyd, VE3UDO visited ic in Belleville and officially transfered VE3KBR from Doug Hunton VE3BGY to himself on behalf of K.A.R.C. for the 2 metre repeater only.  
29 Oct A.R.E.S. net - report of low audio on TX. Trouble cleared out. Changed settings of R25 in TX - audio input pot. Not sure if trouble in RX or TX  
21 NOV 1996 40A Power supply repaired replaced IC. MC1723CP and installed a 120V AC fan in unit. Set output to 13.8 V and put back in service VE3NB
16 NOV. Mailed GLB helix pre-amp to Larry Palmer in Perth fro possible repair. - called him 14 Dec no progress.  
16 DEC 96 0930. repeater off air at QTH of VE3NB to move to new site.  
16 Dec 96. repeater back on air at 1430 hrs at new site on 1174 McAdoo's lane Kingston, using 92 metre tower and high gain antennas belonging to Don MacKenzie VE3ULM of Highland Communications of Perth. Range of repeater to be checked but appears to be about 50 miles. (No desensing at all !!) Tom
